Once I realized I could create any purpose I chose, I thought deeply about it. I engaged in a very real conversation with my own Heart, a magical one I referred to in an earlier post and recounted via poetry in “Bird Bath Moon,” which is in one of my Medium articles.
On that night, Heart asked me one focused question: How do I create Discovery? How do I use that identity and power in my life? That is my Purpose. If I follow Heart, urgency is eliminated. Heart-purpose produces peace, calmness, and assurance that underlies enthusiasm, passion, and execution. I require these emotional qualities in order to envision specifics of how I will express Discovery, my Purpose, my Superpower. Here are a few questions that might help you explore, discover, and create your Purpose as you speak with your Heart! 1. What has inspired you both in your past and recently? 2. What patterns have you recognized about things that have inspired you throughout your life? For instance, what similarities do they share? Are they consistent in basic nature — art works, technology, service to others, trades and crafts, physical exertion, music, use of numbers, or any of thousands of possibilities? 3. What inspirations have driven you to action, i.e., what inspiration has been translated into enthusiastic motivation powerful enough to make you do things like educating yourself in a variety of formats, getting involved in groups, taking jobs associated with your inspiration? Spirit wishes to experience the beauty and intricacies of its own creation. When we create Purpose, we engage Spirit in our personalized life experience as we find ways to exercise our newly created Superpower. Pretty awesome! When we don’t create, we miss out, and that void of having a purpose remains. My recommendation is to choose Heart, discover Self, and then create Purpose by considering what brings happiness to our soul-mind-body complex. What floats our boat and is relevant to our awakened identity?! Now, when we look in the mirror we can see a Superhero who expresses our new Purpose, our Superpower. Do you have that vision yet?

Ego would seek to neutralize the energy of Heart by working through the mind; therefore, Heart encourages us by working through soul in creating Purpose. Soul work is emotional work, and when creating Purpose, I considered my personality, based on emotions, and my passions. These are soul concerns, and my Heart knew I needed those considerations.
Why? My Heart also knows how quickly my ego-influenced mind can rationalize me out of decisions. Therefore, in fellowship with my Heart, my emotions come first. No matter how anyone’s Heart works within a person, we come to know Self in order to be happy, content, and excited about life. We are meant to feel significant, loved, relevant — in other words, purposeful! These were some of the emotional components for me. I do not divorce the mind and soul aspects of personality from one another; their separate consideration only serves to help me in awareness, which means I choose Heart to be the operating system for my mind, too. My mind was the biggest hindrance in making the decision about Purpose. Heart had me use my mind to consider rationale rather than constructing rationalizations prompted by Ego. With my Heart-operated mind, I evaluated skills, abilities, education, and interests, and how the things I could choose to do would make me feel — a holistic energy of love for myself. I realized that all of my life could be summed up in one passion and mind-soul union: Discovery. I think it may be useful to some people to name their discovered Self and created Purpose, which I suggested at the end of the previous section. Mine is Discovery. The contraries of Ego and Heart working within my mind-soul-body complex when choosing Heart allowed me to create: Heart showed me the schemes of Ego. Ego would jump right away to cause me to think about finding a safe and secure job, respectability, justifying my actions to others, and similar Ego concerns. None of those are wrong, but they are not the principles for creating the Purpose of a Superhero. (To be concluded) While the elements of Awakening don’t follow in some specific order for any of us. For me, almost instantaneous — same evening, same conversation — with my awakening was my desire for knowing.
This meeting and acknowledgement of Heart as Spirit in us brings along a second question that is so intertwined with Who am I that it’s difficult to distinguish. Almost in the same breath, I needed to, demanded to, know the answer to Why Am I Here? Or another way to think of it is What is my Superpower? Superheroes have a superpower! Our new frequency of Heart operating as our central processing unit instigates this question in a renewed way. I say renewed way because most of us wonder about this question at different points in life; that, alone, is another proof of Heart constantly calling our attention to its presence within us. If Heart works to raise this question to us throughout our lives, then how much more intense will this question be once we have awakened to Heart? This is a point with which some will disagree, but please consider this. We create our own purpose, create our own Superpower. If you are younger or if you did not have a background in organized, dogmatized religion, you may not have as much of a challenge as I did. Why? Because the belief was drilled into me — I accepted it and Ego welcomed it — that I would have to find what God wanted me to do with my life. There was a plan, and it was all laid out. I had to find it, like some kind of spiritual pin-the-tail-on-the-purpose game. It was exterior to me. And when I hit the right spot, I would just know it. Ego likes such a scenario because it pleases so many others. It makes people fit in, do something which society, a moral society, approves of. And that is okay; however, the question will keep coming up until we follow the way of Heart, eternal Spirit that is part of our inherent identity — not exterior to us. We are co-creators with Heart of our own Purpose. The Heart operating system will question and prod and lead us to choose. It is not dependent on anyone or anything else. Ego and Heart operate, and we choose whichever we want to be our operating system. The choice may be a conscious one for either operating system; however, if we do not choose, Ego is default. (To be continued) As we journey through life, we continue to discover, and as we discover, we mature, we improve, we work to live and integrate our true Superhero self into our everyday world. This pursuit of happiness moves us to find resources to help manifest and live our Heart-truth every single day in order to enjoy this wonderful, eternal, powerful, Superhero self.
Therefore, we should know this Self well. In order to do that, think about the following questions, for a start:
3. After these conversations or meditations, if you chose a name, one word, after having a session of speaking with your own Heart, what might that be, a name that characterizes that Self you sense has been working throughout your life, a name that is associated with those things that have truly inspired you and caused you to do something, to act, to enjoy, to live in enthusiasm? What would you name this Self? (Your Superhero!) This is very personal between you and Heart in relation to Spirit. Consider it there. Allow the Superhero you are to awaken, emerge, and begin living in the superpower bound up in your true Self. (This continues yesterday’s post, a revised excerpt from my book Superhero You! Discover Self. Create Purpose. available on Amazon)
We deep down long to establish a complete connection with that eternal, spiritual component of Self. However, since we come equipped with Ego, there is this struggle. The struggle is necessary for discovery, because the struggle between Ego and Heart to be our primary operating system produces exploration. Ego doesn’t like challenge or change; therefore, when we engage in the adventures of life, we know that we operate in Heart-love. We are working to reveal our core Self and personal truth. This is the quest for the Superhero within, for Superheroes discover their true identity. Such discovery requires exploration; it’s not simply having an inherent knowledge of that identity, like we know we’re human. We are driven by that little voice within to search. For me, I looked in a mirror into my own eyes and knew: “I see You there. This is the real me, isn’t it?” And a distinct voice from somewhere within my mind-soul answered, “Yes, it’s Me. It’s You.” The Superhero. We hear Heart, and we heed it, because it is our true Self. We sense Heart there, “see” it, and respond. I knew who and what I was heeding and responding to was not Ego, not some self-centered energy living to be noticed and exalted or self-deprecated and downtrodden or anything in-between. Ego influences me to think of how others would perceive me and respond to me. I wasn’t responding to egoic self or to some religious standard. I was responding to Heart, eternal Spirit of all, within this creature of Me. We have divinity in us, the Spirit of Creator and Love; therefore, we have the question and answer: Who am I? I am, I exist eternally as the energy of all that Spirit is. This instantaneous realization is an epiphany, an epiphany that at core Self we are Spirit, pure energy, true Superhero. And in my case, I experience Spirit-life in the body-mind-soul complex of Michael DePung. This created life is based on energy, vibrational frequencies that compose the tiniest particles of which we can theorize, and moving from Ego to Heart raises those frequencies. That change fills the void created by operating primarily in the lower Ego frequencies, and we can sense the change in our mind-soul-body complex, our complete being. We feel good, happy, comfortable in our own skin. This aspect of awakening is also a process of growth in understanding, and it is beyond the epiphany of that initial realization. Questions to consider:How many times have you asked yourself or simply thought about the following questions?
Who am I, really? What is my truth? How do my actions reveal what I really feel and believe? What would I do with my life if I could do anything? What is my passion? Why am I here? How can I discover answers to any of these questions? If you have considered any of these questions, I hope that my experiences and writing will give you some guidance. Please read my blog and comment and share your thoughts. I would love to hear from you! Archives
